Dorothy Mae Devore, age 97, of Wapello, died Friday morning, April 26, 2019, at the Wapello Specialty Care.  The daughter of William Newlon and Della Ruth Caparoon Stroup, she was born on October 31, 1921 in Morning Sun.  Dorothy married James Smith Devore on November 5, 1940 in Morning Sun.  He preceded her in death on January 13, 2012.

Dorothy graduated from Morning Sun High School in 1939.  She was a homemaker and helped on the farm.  She enjoyed travelling and was an avid reader.  Dorothy was a member of the Merry Makers Club.

Her family includes four children, Pennie & Tony Housman of Wapello, Jeff & Alice Devore of Danville, Anita & Steve Odle of Wapello, and Teresa & Ron Carver of Mt. Pleasant; ten grandchildren; seventeen great grandchildren; and three great great grandchildren.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, James; a grandson; two sisters; and four brothers.

The graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Friday, May 3, 2019, at the Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.  A luncheon will follow at 11:30 AM at the First Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall in Wapello.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Keck Memorial Library and Great River Hospice.

So sorry to read or the loss of your mother, Jeff. She lived a very long life. Enjoy the memories you have of her. Prayers are with you and your family at this time of grieving.
