Elmer ‘Snooks’ Louis Staats, Jr., aged 82, died Friday April 19, 2019, at Wapello Specialty Care. The son of Elmer Louis, Sr. and Wanda Lodwick Staats was born on May 23, 1936 in Wapello, Iowa. Snooks married M. Ann Cline on September 20, 1958, she preceded him in death on August 12, 1997.

Snooks worked for the City of Wapello, Huttigs in Muscatine, and Doane Products where he retired from after 25 years in production. Growing up he attended the Church of the Nazarene with his family. He was a hunter and loved to fish.

Snooks is survived by one son, John Staats of Oakville; two daughters, Kathy Staats & Doug Olson of Burlington and Janice & Larry Sharar of Oakville; five grandchildren, Jason & Emily Burgus of Winfield, Brandon & Amanda Burgus of North Liberty, Michelle Campbell of Coralville, Darby & Don Sieburg of Andover, New Hampshire, and Jack & Jamie Sharar of North Liberty; seven great grandchildren; brothers, Bill & Jean of Burlington, Larry & Patsy of Muscatine, Stan & Lynn of Wapello, and Jim & Julie of Columbus Junction; two sisters, Sandra Nedrebo of New London and Jackie & Tony Eberling of Houma, Louisiana; several nieces and nephews. He is preceded in death by his parents; wife, Ann; brother, Bob; sisters, Darlene McBride and Diane Honts.

Funeral services for Snooks will be at 10:30 AM Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello and will be officiated by Pastor Claude Perhealth. Family will meet with friends prior to the service at the funeral home at 9:30 AM.

Our prayers are with you in the passing of Elmer. He was fun to kid around with at the nursing home. He and Mom (Jennie Small) would kid each other! Pass on the stories to the young family members. Humor helps to heal at this sad time. Maxine Mabeus
