Roy Hill Banks, age 89, of Wapello, Iowa and formerly of Plymouth, Michigan, died Friday morning, March 22, 2019.  The son of Sim P. and Lena Hill Banks, he was born on May 27, 1929 in Manchester, Tennessee. He moved from Tennessee to Michigan as a young man where he met his one true love, Joyce Mae Gregorich. They married on January 27, 1951 in Bowling Green, Ohio. The couple eventually settled in Plymouth, Michigan where he spent his adult life. Holding several jobs in the Plymouth area, he retired from Fingerle Lumber Yard in Ann Arbor. In 2016 Roy & Joyce moved to Wapello, Iowa to be near their daughter.

Of the Methodist and Nazarene faiths, Roy enjoyed woodworking, bead crafting, puzzles, and especially socializing with people. Above all, Roy cherished family. He is survived by his wife of 69 years, Joyce Banks; a daughter, Brenda Paulson & Pete Simmons of Wapello; a sister-in-law, Betty Banks of Forest Park, Georgia; ten nieces and nephews and numerous grand nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents and six siblings, Nannie Will Reynolds, Altha Lee Lusk, S.P. Banks, Mary Sue Teague, Fred Banks, and Nettie Ruth Sain.

A Celebration Service is planned at Bickford Cottage in Burlington, IA from 1:00 to 3:00 PM on Wednesday, March 27, 2019. Per Roy's request, cremation has been selected. Burial in Michigan will occur at a later date. A memorial has been established. Please mail donations to Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home, 209 Franklin St., Wapello, IA 52653.

We were neighbors in Michigan. Roy was the best of men. He was always
there for us if we needed someone. He will be greatly missed. Our heartfelt
sympathy to Joyce and the family.
