Deborah Lynn Kirkpatrick Newsom, age 65, of Oakville, died at 3:45 PM on Wednesday, August 1, 2018, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.  The daughter of Dale and Delpha Young Kirkpatrick, she was born on October 13, 1952 in Burlington.  Deborah received her GED in 1970 and Her Associates Degree in Nursing from Parkland College in Champaign, Illinois in 1994.  She married Karl Lee Newsom in 1977 and were married for 25 years.  She lived for several years in Naples Florida before returning to the area to be with family.

Deborah worked at various care facilities as a nurse and MDS Coordinator.  She loved her career and respected her patients as well as earned the respect of her co-workers.  She enjoyed and loved her grandchildren very much.

Her family includes her mother, Delpha Young Kirkpatrick Blint of Mt. Pleasant; her four children, Margo & Craig Hadden of Fisher, Illinois, Karla Monroe & Greg Ells of Wapello, Anthony & Lacey Newsom of Oakville, and Jeremy Newsom of Oakville; four step-children, Angela Newsom of MO, Tina Cravens of Burlington, Cindy Davis of Missouri, and Karl Brian Newsom of Burlington; eighteen grandchildren, Taylor, Bailey, Drake, Marly, Alyssa, Kyssa, Karyssa, A.J., Jax, Grace, Tailinn, Austin, Tyler, Kohlby, Kassydee, Karlee, Kailynn, and Kristian; a brother, Doug & Gail Kirkpatrick of New London; and a sister, Diana & Walter Moyle of Mt. Pleasant.  She was preceded in death by her father, Dale; her step-father, Dean Blint; and former husband, Karl.

There will be a Celebration of Life at 2:00 PM on Sunday, August 5, 2018, at the Oakville Community Building.

Memorials may be made to a memorial fund for the Oakville Volunteer Fire Department, please make checks out to the Oakville Fire Department or to help the family cover final expenses please make donations out to Margo Hadden.

I was sorry to hear of Deb's passing. I enjoyed working with her and she was a passionate advocate for her residents. She made the world a better place one patient at a time.
