Leo Ernest Williams, age 47, of Wapello, died at home Monday morning, February 12, 2018.  The son of Jim and Janet Wykert Williams, he was born on March 12, 1970 in Burlington.  Leo graduated from Wapello High School in 1988 and attended Southeastern Community College for two years acquiring his machinist skills.

He worked at HON Industries for several years and at night with Superior Tooling with his brother and dad in Wapello.  This became full time as his passion was in machine work.

Leo was an Eagle Scout and was a Moderator for Practical Machinist’s Forum.  He enjoyed deer hunting.

He is survived by his parents Jim and Janet Williams of Wapello; and his brother, Terry Williams and Diana Garner of Wapello.  He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Ernest and Leota Richardson Wykert, Catherine Wykert, and Wilbur and Mary Heath Williams.

The funeral ceremony for Leo Williams will be held at 10:00 AM on Thursday, February 15, 2018, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Carl Benge officiating.  Burial will follow at the Dolby Cemetery, rural Mediapolis, with a lunch to follow at the Oakville Community Building.

The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Wednesday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Wapello Food Pantry and the Wapello Rescue Unit.

The Williams Family,

I am so shocked and saddened to hear of Leo's passing.
I worked with Leo at HON Co. and never knew a more industrious or ingenious tool designer. Extremely dependable and conscientious with multiple abilities.
He was a friend to many and loyal to all. May you cherish the memory of a wonderful young man.

Sincerest condolences for the Family during this difficult time. Leo and I spoke and emailed a bit, aside from Practical Machinist. He would pick my brain about gears from time to time, and I was always impressed by his extremely straight forward approach toward solving problems. He was a very intelligent man, talented machinist, and well respected. These qualities were surpassed only by his open handed nature and giving heart, seemingly always ready to assist someone in need.

Have not met in person, but talked to several times over different subjects, as well as online posts. Good guy! He will leave a hole in our community for some time.
