Arlo Gene Lessenger, age 83, of Muscatine, died Monday morning, April 13, 2015, at his home.  The son of Carroll J. and Mary Lucille Shaw Lessenger he was born on March 16, 1932 in Mt. Pleasant.  He married Lois Lucille Stineman in 1950.  They later divorced.

Arlo graduated from Wapello High School in 1950.  He worked as a machinist and retired from Prime Mover in Muscatine to manage his rental properties.  He enjoyed and had participated in car racing and was an avid Chicago Bulls, Chicago Bears, and Iowa Hawkeyes fan.

His family includes a daughter, Teresa & Brian Shepley of Muscatine; two sons, Dr. Elvin ‘Pete’ & Carolyn Lessenger of Friendswood, Texas and Brian & Fran Lessenger of Grandview; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and a sister, Roberta & Ray Boulton of Wapello.  He was preceded in death by his parents; and two sisters, La Donna Jo Lessenger and Riva Brown.

The funeral ceremony for Arlo Lessenger will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, April 17, 2015, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Darryl Erickson officiating.  Burial will follow at the Wapello Cemetery.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 8:00 PM on Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home where the family will meet friends from 6:00 to 8:00 PM.

A Memorial Fund has been established for the benefit of the American Heart Association.

Brian,

My condolences to you and your family on the passing of your father. My husband used to work with Arlo at Prime Mover and we would occasionally see him at Menards after he retired. Always enjoyed chatting with him.
