Esther Elizabeth Brown, age 98, formerly of Oakville, died Monday morning, February 9, 2015, at the Great River Medical Center in West Burlington.  The daughter of Harry J. and Laura Conn Stoller, she was born on November 12, 1916 in Ottawa, Ontario, Canada.  Esther married Ralph I. ‘Brownie’ Brown on June 1, 1937 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.  He preceded her in death on July 16, 2011.

Esther graduated from Oakville High School, received her normal training and taught country school near Oakville for three years before her marriage.  After raising her family she went back to teaching in the late 50’s in Oakville and Wapello elementary schools.  She received her B.A. degree in the late 60’s from Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant.

She was a member of the United Methodist Church in Oakville along with being a Charter member of the UMW.  She also taught Sunday School.  Esther enjoyed reading, gardening, traveling, neck tie quilting, crocheting, and anything about science and nature.

Her family includes two sons, Robert ‘Bob’ & Mary Brown of Oakville and Wayne & Jo Brown of Stanwood; a daughter, Barbara & Wayne Caparoon of Dallas City, Illinois; six grandchildren; eight great grandchildren; a brother, Roy & Lila Stoller; and many nieces and nephews.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Ralph; five brothers, Earl, Art, Ray, Richard, and Harry Stoller; and a sister, Laura Humpton.

The funeral ceremony for Esther Brown will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 14, 2015, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Pastor David Behlman officiating.  Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery at Oakville.

Friends may call from 2:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.  Family and friends will also share a time of food and fellowship after the burial at the Oakville Community Building.

A memorial fund has been established for the benefit of the Edwards Cemetery and the Oakville United Methodist Church.

I took care of and spent a lot of time with Esther when she lived at Sunny Brook.....she was such a sweet loving and caring woman that I will forever remember as Grandma Bubbles :) my thoughts and prayers go out to her whole family and to everyone who she had touched their lives.....Rest in Heaven, Grandma Bubbles

She was a wonderful women and friend, I will never forget the time I spent with her at SunnyBrook. We always had so much fun just talking and share jokes, stories and looking at pictures. Esther you made the world a better place...

So sorry to hear of Esther's Passing. I was part of the team from First United Methodist Church in Burlington that delivered communion to Sunnybrook. Esther was a delight to know and we will miss her. May you find comfort in your memories of Esther.

Mrs. Brown was my 3rd grade teacher at Wapello Elementary, and I always remember her reading Ramona books to us throughout the school year. She was a teacher who had high expectations of her students and was very caring. I have always remembered her fondly. You have my deepest sympathy.
