Marcy Jean Gerst-Meeker, age 75, of Columbus Junction, died Monday morning, May 13, 2019, at the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics in Iowa City.  The daughter of Glenn Louis and Gladys Bernice Dunn Taylor, she was born on December 12, 1943 in Toolesboro.  Marcy graduated from Wapello High School in 1961, attended Southeastern Community College and Northeast Missouri State Teachers College.  She married Darrell Richard Gerst on January 11, 1966 in Kahoka, Missouri.  He preceded her in death on October 27, 1993.  She married Orville Walter Meeker on July 12, 1997 in Wapello.  He preceded her in death on March 15, 2012.

She had worked at McCleery Cummings in Washington and then with Community Action in Louisa County retiring in 2008.  She was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in Wapello.  Marcy loved to cook and collect cookbooks.  She had also enjoyed gardening, fishing, farming, and travelling.

Her family includes two daughters, Beth Ann & Brian Fleenor of West Burlington and Dawn Marie & Stanley Miller of Iowa City; two grandchildren, Megan Marie Fleenor and Logan Eugene Fleenor; her sister, Josephine Louella Henry of Galesburg; several nieces and nephews and their families; along with six stepsons, Dr. David & Beatrice Meeker of Maryland, Tom & Ann Meeker of Muscatine, Donald & Kris Meeker of Muscatine, Rev. Dennis & Lorna Meeker of Kisuma, Kenya, Africa, Dr. Brian & Linda Meeker of Vinton, and Dr. Mark & Shari Meeker of Galesburg.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands, Darrell and Orville; two sisters, Patricia Lou Pettis and Ruth Ann Taylor.

The funeral ceremony for Marcy Gerst-Meeker will be held at 11:00 AM on Saturday, May 18, 2019, at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello with Rev. Dr. Chris Hinkle officiating.  Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.  A lunch gathering will follow at the Oakville Community Building.

The family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home.

Memorial gifts will benefit the grandchildren’s education.
