John Ferd Wanfalt, age 84, of Wapello, died Friday morning, April 12, 2019, at the Wapello Specialty Care.  The son of Arthur and Ebba Linstrom Wanfalt, he was born on December 17, 1934 in Chicago, Illinois.  John married Lois Campbell on February 3, 1967 in Stronghurst, Illinois.

John graduated from Stronghurst High School in 1952 and graduated with a B.S. degree in Conservation from Northern Michigan University in 1960.  He worked for the US Fish & Wildlife in northern Michigan and then for International Harvester in Moline, Illinois and later for the Iowa State Extension of USDA for Louisa and Muscatine counties.

He served in the US Navy from 1952 to 1955.  He was a member of the United Methodist Church in Wapello.  John was an outdoors man that loved animals especially his dogs along with hunting and being a tree farmer.

His family includes his wife, Lois; two sons, David Wanfalt of Wapello and Daniel Wanfalt of Pinedale, Wyoming; four grandchildren, Danielle & Rusty Wolff, Mitchell Wanfalt, Travis Wanfalt, and Austin Wanfalt; and five siblings, Barbara Bowen of Tampa, Florida, Donald Kosman of Leesburg, Florida, Lillian Fritze of Mondovi, Wisconsin, Kay Ahvem of Richmond, Illinois, and Bonnie Truelsen of Evanston, Illinois.  He was preceded in death by his parents.

A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Saturday, April 27, 2019, at the United Methodist Church with Pastor Linda Morris officiating.  The family will meet with friends an hour before and an hour after the service at the Fellowship Hall of the United Methodist Church.

Memorial Gifts will benefit the Great River Hospice, the United Methodist Church, and the Louisa County 4 H.
