Marjorie Frances Conklin


Marjorie Frances Thompson was born December 13, 1919 in rural Louisa County, Iowa, the daughter of Earl Bryan Thompson and Thelma (Grasham) Thompson.  She was married to William Robert Temple on November 16, 1943.  On March 17, 1962 she was united in marriage to Dwight W. Byram in Burlington, Iowa.  After his death in 1981 she married Orville A. Conklin on February 11, 1984 in Columbus Junction, Iowa.

From 1981 until 2004 she spent her winters in Green Valley, Arizona and summers in Iowa.  Marge was a co-founder of Byram Co. Realtors with offices in Burlington, Fort Madison, and Keokuk, Iowa.  She was also a licensed Illinois Real Estate Broker and active in the business for 20 years.

In 1974 she served as President of the Iowa Association of Women Realtors, and during her career she served as a Board President of Burlington and Fort Madison Real Estate Boards.

Marge was an avid bowler, holding membership as a league bowler in WIBC for over 60 years.  She served in many League Offices and was instrumental in the organization of the Burlington Women’s Bowling Hall of Fame.  She loved golf, bridge, traveling, reading, and at age 84 began writing a column, Memo From Marge, for the Columbus Gazette.

She is survived by a stepson, Wendell O. Byram and wife, Melinda of Tucson, Arizona; a stepdaughter, Deborah Eis and husband Robert of Montgomery, Texas; a sister, Jean Holden of West Burlington; seven step-grandchildren; several step-great grandchildren; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.  She was preceded in death by her parents; her husbands; two sons, William Robert Temple, Jr. and Stephen E. (Tony) Temple formerly of Burlington; a stepson, John Conklin; a brother, Paul Donaven Thompson; two sisters, Loretta Arlene (in infancy) and Anna Belle Cockrell formerly of Wever.

Marjorie died Wednesday, January 17, 2018, at The Beehive in Green Valley, Arizona.  Following cremation and her return to Iowa there will be a service and burial at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home and the Harrison Cemetery both of Wapello, scheduled for Friday, June 29, 2018.  The exact time will be scheduled later.

So sorry to hear of Marge's death but know she enjoyed her long life although sadly lost her sons before she died.
