Russell Paul ‘Skip’ Timmerman, age 88, of Wapello, died Sunday morning, January 7, 2018 at the Wapello Specialty Care.  The son of Fred and Wilma Frances Faris Timmerman, he was born on May 25, 1929 in Des Moines.  He married Dorothy Louise Kohen on September 16, 1950 in Mediapolis.

Russell served in the US Army during the Korean Conflict as a Corporal with Company M of the 25th Infantry Division.  He had farmed briefly before his military duty and then worked at the Oakville Lumber Yard, the Ordnance Plant, H J Heinz and retired after 25 years with Grain Processing Company.

He had been a member of the American Legion at Oakville, was a life member of the Wapello VFW Glenn Allen Post 5166, a member of Indian Hills Golf and Country Club, and the Local 86 while working at GPC.  He had served on the Oakville Fire Department including as Chief, the Wapello Fire Department, and as a coach of Little League.  He belonged to a bowling league and was an avid Iowa football fan and enjoyed sports on TV.  Together he and Dorothy enjoyed camping and bluegrass music and festivals.

His family includes his wife, Dorothy of 67 years; five children, Robert & Janey Timmerman of Wapello, Annette & Tony Thomas of Wapello, Marie and Bill Dideriksen of Mediapolis, Lyle & Carla Timmerman of Wapello, and Connie & Kenny Fletcher of Wapello; 18 grandchildren; 39 great grandchildren; a brother, Fritz & Jeanie Timmerman of Carmen, Illinois; and a sister, Mary Ann & Mike Johnson of Burlington.  He was preceded in death by his parents and step father, Walter Senn; a son, Donald; a grandson, Kirk & Jessie; two great grandchildren, Evan Massey and Laikyn Shutts; and a brother, David O. & Marjorie Timmerman.

The funeral ceremony for Skip Timmerman will be held at 10:30 AM on Friday, January 12, 2018, at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating.  Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville, with military rites by the Louisa County Veterans. A lunch will follow at the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Friends may call from 3:00 to 7:00 PM Thursday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello where the family will meet friends from 5:00 to 7:00 PM.

grandpa, you were a great man. i will miss you telling stories about the time you served in the millitary and about all of your friends you met. you were a great funny man, and it hurt me to see you hurting. we all love and miss you! rest easy up there gramps<3 r.i.p grandpa skip,3

Sorry to learn about the loss of your Dad. I will remember Skip playing golf at Indian Hills (now Heritage Oaks) and using Robert's old golf cart. That golf cart had nine lives as Robert definitely used it for many golf games.
