C. Jane Carter, age 88, a longtime resident of Oakville, Iowa, having moved to Dallas City, Illinois following the 2008 flood, died Monday evening, November 20, 2017, at the LaHarpe Davier in LaHarpe, Illinois.  The daughter of Jesse and M. Irene Curry Rusher, she was born on March 27, 1929 in Bentler, Illinois.  

Jane graduated from Valier High School in Illinois.  She married Everett Lewis in 1949 and they later divorced.  Jane married Jerry Carter on February 17, 1962 in Monmouth, Illinois.  He preceded her in death on March 12, 1990.

Jane worked as a nurse aide in the Monmouth Hospital until 1965.  From 1965 – 1976 she worked at Shafer Pen in Fort Madison and then from 1976 to 1987 she worked at the Oakville Grocery and Hardware.

She had attended the now Oakville Community Bible Church.  She enjoyed cooking for her family, canning from her garden and especially loved animals.

Her family includes a son, Lonnie Lewis of Dallas City; nine grandchildren; several great and great great grandchildren; a brother, Kenneth Rusher of Lomax, Illinois; and a sister, Lois Jackson of Benton, Illinois.  She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Jerry; two daughters, Roselind Lewis and Glenda Hutson; a son, Ronald Carter; three grandchildren; two sisters; and a brother.

The funeral ceremony for Jane Carter will be held at 1:00 PM on Saturday, November 25, 2017, at the Oakville Community Bible Church with Pastor Jim Ruberg officiating.  Burial will follow at the Edwards Cemetery, rural Oakville.  The family will meet friends from 5:30 to 7:00 PM on Friday at the Dudgeon-McCulley Funeral Home in Wapello.

A memorial fund has been established.

I'm very sorry for your loss and pray that God would surround you with His love and comfort your heart during this difficult time. Jane was a special person who always showed an interest in you when she talked to you. We will miss her friendly smile and her keen sense of humor.
