Michael Walfrid ‘Mike’ Ecklund II, age 58, of Wapello, passed away Wednesday afternoon, August 9, 2017, at the University of Iowa Hospitals & Clinics in Iowa City.  The son of Michael Walfrid Ecklund I and Glenda Gylene Reed, he was born on December 29, 1958 in Muscatine.  Mike married Bev Griffith on December 31, 1993 in Wapello.

He graduated from Wapello High School in 1977.  Mike worked at JI Case for several years and then did contracting for 36 years as E & A Construction, later known as Ecklund & Pforts Construction.

Mike was a member of the Izaak Walton League, the NRA, and lifetime member at Indian Hills Golf and Country Club.  He had a hobby of cabinetry and enjoyed hunting, fishing, boating, singing, camping, ranger riding, going to the mountains, and any outdoor activities especially with his family.

Michael is survived by his wife, Bev; three children, Caullie & Tom Murphy of Columbus Junction, Michael III & Dawn Ecklund of Wapello, and Kristi Ecklund of Burlington; five grandchildren, Zoey, Phoebe, KeAira, Jaden, and Tate; his father and step mother, Michael I & Maria
Ecklund of Escondido, California; two brothers, David & Dana Ecklund of Hollister, Missouri and Brian & Deb Thye of Oakville; and a sister, Lora Ann Thye & Patrick Bubela of Columbus, Texas.  He was preceded in death by his mother and step father, Glenda and Henry Thye and a grandson, Kayzen.

Following cremation, a Memorial Service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, August 15, 2017, at the Solid Rock Baptist Church in Wapello with Pastor Dan Doolin officiating.  A visitation with the family meeting friends will be from 6:00 to 8:00 PM on Monday at the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

Memorial gifts will benefit the Solid Rock Baptist Church.

WE ARE SO SORRY TO HEAR ABOUT MIKE. HE HAD A HARD LAST FEW YRS. BUT
FOUGHT HARD . HE WAS A SPECIAL MAN WHO WILL BE MISSED ALOT BY MANY.
